SILENT THURSDAYS On Thursdays​,​ in the Rochemolles valley​,​ in the Bardonecchia area​,​ in the province of Turin​,​ on the highest dirt road in Italy (it reaches 3000 meters at Colle del Sommeiller)​,​ motor traffic is banned. For a day​,​ bicycles and hikers are masters of the roads and paths. Having driven to the refuge the evening before​,​ after breakfast we will enjoy the day surrounded by the silence of the high altitudes. And on the way back​,​ the well-deserved beer will be delicious! What we will do The activity starts in the morning at 9am from the refuge car park. After a final check of the efficiency of the equipment (footwear​,​ backpacks​,​ sticks​,​ etc.) we follow the path that leads to the majestic waterfall that roars behind the refuge​,​ after which we will climb towards the plateaus of Pian dei Morti prima and Pian dei Friars then. In an increasingly mineral world​,​ we rise in altitude with the view that extends further and further. Our goal​,​ the summit of Sommeiller​,​ 3330 meters. Returning to the cars​,​ after a nice and tasty beer​,​ we return. Who is it aimed at? This excursion is of medium level​,​ it does not have complicated​,​ exposed or in any way dangerous passages. You certainly need to have a minimum amount of experience walking at altitude. However​,​ good physical condition is required given that the duration of the excursion is approximately 6 hours and takes place between 2200 and 3330 metres. Activity description: Moderately simple walk on mixed high mountain terrain​,​ from the last meadows to the stony ground. We will discover the Grange du Fond amphitheater and the Scarfiotti Refuge​,​ a splendid and wild valley guarded by a powerful waterfall in the territory of the Municipality of Bardonecchia. We will move between approximately 2165 and 3330 meters​,​ above the growth line of the trees​,​ our steps will echo in the silence of the open spaces typical of altitude. Around​,​ the mountains of the Alps that delimit the border between Italy and France​,​ the Cresta San Michele​,​ the Rognosa di Etiache​,​ the Sommeiller with its 3333 meters of height welcome us silently. The return route is the same as the outward journey. Upon request and with the whole group in agreement​,​ along the return journey​,​ the excursion can be extended using the Glaciological Path ring. The hike is approximately 14 km. with a difference in altitude of approximately 1100 metres.
